AMD Acquires World Labs

World Labs, the spatial-intelligence company Fei-Fei Li founded in 2024, signed a definitive agreement to join AMD. Li becomes AMD's Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, reporting to CEO Lisa Su, and cofounders Justin Johnson and Ben Mildenhall keep leading the team inside a new frontier research organization. The two companies had been working together since the year before, training and serving World Labs' models on AMD GPUs; the deal is expected to close by the end of 2026.

World Labs makes Marble, which turns a prompt or an image into a persistent 3D world you can walk a camera through, the branch of generative media that sits between a video model and a game engine. A chipmaker buying the lab says where the industry thinks that branch is going: world models are expensive to train and run, and whoever owns the hardware wants the models that will keep it busy. The two companies pitched the combination as an open stack, from chips and software to widely available open models.
