Separation

A journey through geologic time as strange hybrid creatures evolve, split apart and learn to live side by side. The brothers behind London's Studio Gruff drew every character and environment by hand and animated it frame by frame, then used generative AI for color and lighting and AI interpolation to smooth the motion. Alice Boyd's score blends voice with sounds made by plants, recorded inside the Eden Project's rainforest dome. A Merit winner at Runway's second AI Film Festival.
