Netflix: ~300 Programs Used Generative AI This Year

In its second-quarter 2026 earnings report and shareholder letter, Netflix revealed that roughly 300 programs across its library have used generative AI so far this year — spanning the full production process from concept and previsualization through post-production and release. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos framed the tools as making creatives more efficient rather than replacing them. Netflix singled out the American Revolution docuseries "The American Experiment," where 17 minutes of AI-enhanced footage was produced roughly twice as fast and at half the cost. It also named the Indian sports thriller "Glory" and the Brazilian soccer miniseries "Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri," which used the technology for highly complex sequences like enhanced crowd sizes and battle scenes. The disclosure is a milestone in scale: a major studio openly quantifying, for shareholders, just how deeply generative AI has already been woven into mainstream production.
