# Develop the film

Period: 2024 – now · Era: 2024 · The Great Convergence

Script, shot list and prompts, written with a language model.

Before a frame is generated, someone has to decide what the film is. From 2024 many AI filmmakers wrote with a chatbot at their side: it pitched, drafted the script, broke it into a shot list and wrote prompts for the shots. Apps like LTX Studio packaged the same chain, and in 2026 an agent started holding the whole development in a project folder.

## How it worked

1. **Write the script with a language model,** then keep the parts that sound like you. PJ Accetturo co-wrote the Kalshi spot's jokes with Gemini and ChatGPT.
2. **Break it into a shot list:** one line per shot, with the time of day, lighting, characters and any dialogue.
3. **Turn the list into prompts,** five or ten at a time, each written as if the video model remembers nothing about the last shot.
4. **Generate far more than you keep.** The Kalshi spot took three to four hundred generations for fifteen usable clips, over two to three days.
5. **Or hand it to an agent.** A brief in a project folder becomes the script, the cast and the shot list (Runway Agent, invideo Agent One), or Claude Code reads it and runs the production from there.

## Why it mattered

The models made shots cheap, which moved the scarce work upstream: knowing what the film is and what each shot is for. The language model became the writers' room, and the shot list became the common interface to video models.
