Eighteen months before the ordinary mornings and impossible nights, Izzy and Marlon met for their first date. But some people are easier to love when you don't know what they're hiding.

Ten days after [Episode 1](https://aifilmhistory.org/entry/night-drive-ep-1/) set up a couple, a secret, and a nocturnal routine, Dodd does the thing serialized storytelling exists for: he goes backward. A prequel this early trusts that the audience already cares, and lets the pilot's secret hang over two people getting to know each other. The dread is all dramatic irony. At nearly five minutes in 4K it's longer than the pilot, and it proves Dodd can hold the look steady into a second installment. Night Drive is now a series with a timeline, more than most AI series ever get.
