Five months after [Images 2](https://aifilmhistory.org/entry/gpt-image-2), OpenAI's image model gets more natural lighting and richer textures, holds on to the subjects in reference photos, and follows edits more reliably across several turns, at up to 50% lower latency. Developers get two versions: Flare, the fast default, and Sunburst, built for tighter control across edits in production work.

For AI filmmakers it is a first-frame tool. With Sora's app already shut down, OpenAI's way into AI film was the image that starts a shot, handed off to other companies' video models. Within days creators were pairing it with Seedance 2.5, as in TechHalla's [No lo intenten hacer en casa](https://aifilmhistory.org/entry/no-lo-intenten-hacer-en-casa), which passed 63 million views on X with the prompts posted alongside.
