Aka, a Japanese man, keeps trying to escape a suburban American house that will not let him leave, while a skinless, blood-red double, his memories made flesh, dances with him. Daniel Antebi shot it as live action on an ARRI Alexa Mini, then rotoscoped a second performer and reskinned him with AI as bare muscle, using Runway Gen-2 and Stable Diffusion. AI "was the only way to execute the effect we wanted with the budget we had," Antebi said. A film about displacement and mental health, narrated in Japanese, it won the Grand Prix at [Runway's second AI Film Festival](https://aifilmhistory.org/entry/aiff-2024) from about 3,000 submissions.
