# BMG and Suno Announce a Global Strategic Alliance

BMG and Suno announce a global strategic alliance on August 12, 2026: BMG licenses its recorded-music and publishing catalogs to Suno for the artists and songwriters who choose to take part, gets paid for their music, and settles the question of Suno's past use of it. Suno calls the result its first music model built in partnership with the music industry. BMG was never a plaintiff in the RIAA-led lawsuits, so this is a deal rather than a settlement; Warner settled in November 2025, and Universal and Sony are still suing.

The deal lands in a week of guardrails. On August 6 Suno rolled out fingerprinting and tamper-resistant watermarks for its output, with Audible Magic and Musixmatch's Sentinel screening prompts and songs against existing compositions, and it announced download caps from September 3: seven lifetime downloads on the free plan and no commercial rights, 20 a month on Pro, 60 on Premier, with the download itself becoming the license to release a song. Studio 2.0 followed on August 13 with MIDI, stem separation and effects.

Suno has been the default score and song tool in the pipelines documented here; licensed training, watermarked output and a cap on how much you can take out of the app change what a finished film can safely ship with.
